Beach volleyball stars’ bikini boycott forces embarrassing change – New York Post

Bikinis have won the day after officials were forced into an embarrassing retreat over plans to introduce sand trousers for the controversial Katara Beach Volleyball Cup event in Qatar.

Players will be able to wear bikinis for next month’s double-gender, 4-star World Tour event in Doha after two Germans and their coach vowed to boycott the event amid a row over strict dress regulations.

Karla Borger and Julia Sude told German media over the weekend they would skip the FIVB World Tour competition in Doha over an apparent bikini ban. read more

Fans of fashionable, locally made bathing suits will be sad to learn that Popina Swimwear—which has been in operation for the last 14 years—has been forced to permanently shutter their Pearl location due to financial complications from the pandemic. On a brighter note, their Hollywood location will reopen this Thursday, May 28.

“We’ve made it through some hard times, and this challenge has no doubt been the hardest,” said Popina founder Lulu Levenson in a press release Tuesday. “But we’re proud of the swimwear we’ve created at Popina Hollywood, and very proud that we have manufactured our swimwear in Portland since day one.” read more
